Cheap goods

Ko Bulon Island is a small island with little development. The island has no ATM, no place to exchange cash, and no reliable cash advance service. If you want to find cheap goods, getting to inland in village area is highly recommended. There are no cars and even roads on the island and transport is very much two legged, so prepare proper shoe because you have to walk a lot while you were there.

Accommodation on the Island

There are several resorts on Bulon Island. Bulone Resort and Panka Resort are only resort which closest to beach. There are other resorts on the island too: Chao Lea Resort, Jungle Resort, Sulaida Resort, Pansand Resort and Marina Resort.

Here are some photo and information of resots on Bulon Island:

Bulone Resort

Occupying the best stretch of sand on Bulon, Bulone Resort is one of the first sights on arrival and easily the island's most popular resort. Bulone is a big hit with families who have young children -- the restaurant has a great sea view but it can seem like a playground with all the kids cartwheeling about. They've a wide selection of bungalows to choose from, ranging from clean wooden seaside family villas with multiple bedrooms to small bamboo shacks with grotty separate bathrooms. All bungalows have fans, mosquito nets, balconies with two chairs, and come with towels and quality linens. It's a family business, and the staff are very sincere, welcoming and helpful. Internet is available for 3 baht per minute in the evenings once the electricity has been switched on. Even if not staying here it's the best place to inquire about boats heading to Pakbara and elsewhere since Bulone Resort acts as the de facto port of the island. It's also the only resort on KoBulon that stays completely open year-round, and prices are negotiable during the slow months. (Thank you)

Panka Bay Resort

The natural beauty and secluded location of PankaYai Bay attracts a stream of loyal visitors to Panka Bay Resort. Perhaps because the mangrove-lined beach is rocky and less than perfect for swimming, there are fewer families here and more long-term guests who come to Bulon seeking peace and quiet. The bungalows all have the same simple furnishings -- a bed with a firm mattress and a fan -- but differ in terms of maintenance. The bungalows in the second row back from the beach are the newest additions, and are significantly bigger and better than the others, but they all cost the same since the older ones have the coveted beachfont location. In fact, though, none of them are great value unless you're staying for a while. (Thank you)

Marina Resort

A short walk from Bulon's best beach, Marina resembles a hillside village with rustic but innovative wooden bungalows standing high on stilts among numerous well-kept flower bushes and palm trees. The spacious bungalows are solidly built with high thatched roofs and big, inviting porches with a couple of wooden chairs perfect for kicking back with a good book. Inside there's a desk, cold-water bathroom and king size bed with thick, comfy mattresses and sumptuous linens. The bungalows are built for optimal air flow and the wind whistles through gaps between the tree limbs that compose the walls. There are no flyscreens on the windows, but mosquito-netting over the bed should keep you bite-free during the night. A good restaurant on site is open high season only and the friendly staff offers a range of services. (Thank you)

Me on the island

It was very early morning that my friend woke me up. The day was the day that we plan to sail to Bulon Island. For me, it was early morning ever. After I prepared myself for the trip, I found myself on little tiny fisherman boat. There were plenty of questions shown up in my mind. Why the boat that brings us to Bulon Island in the middle of Andaman Sea was very small? Was it safe? While the boat leaving the mainland, I asked my friend that why the boat was very small? The answer was totally making sense. It was because the boat was very cheap. Usually, speed boat will take only 45 minutes from main land to the Island, but the boat that we took was taking 3 hours to reach of perimeter of the island.

After 3 hours under wrath of the sun (it was fun to be insecure on tiny boat in middle of blue sea and enjoy the sunshine), we finally arrived on 2 weeks planed island. I expected the island was crowded by tourists and other tourism activities, but I was surprised that the islands were very quiet and virgin. After enjoyed the virginity of the island, we have to prepare for lunch. After we finish lunch, it was time for explore. The island was very nice. It was very awesome trip ever.

Morning trip ever

How to get there?

Getting to Bulon Islands is easy. First of all, bring yourself to Hat Yai International Airport. Second of all, take a minibus from Hat Yai to Pakbara Pier (minibus station called Thalat Kaset). It is located about 2 km from city center. Third of all, take speedboat from Pakbara Pier to Bulon Islands. You can take speedboat from Koh Lipe (Lipe Island), which is more popular for tourist than Bulon Islands.

Ko Bulon Lae

Unlike other popular islands in Satun, Ko Bulon Lae is not crowded by tourists, restaurants and resorts. It is surrounded by relatively clean waters and festooned with bright tropical flowers, countless butterflies, and charming locals who retain the old island ways.

It might not be for everyone -- none of the resorts have air-con or TV, and electricity only runs from 17:00 to 23:00 each evening -- but for those who seek peace and quiet, or just a peak into one of Thailand's most unique islands, Ko Bulon Lae is well worth a visit. Many come back again and again to enjoy the particular tranquility they've only found here, so don't be surprised if Bulon casts its spell on you.
